If you’d like to transfer a domain from one registrar to another, you will need to pass through several safety procedures. One of them is obtaining a unique EPP code from the current registrar company – provided that you are the registrant, since the code is emailed to the owner's mailbox and no one else can see it. You have to provide this code to the new domain registrar, or else they will not be able to start the domain transfer. The EPP authentication codes are case-sensitive and may contain numbers or special characters such as dots or commas, which can be easily mistyped, so make sure you copy/paste the correct code. As an extra safety measure, the transfer code for a domain may be altered regularly. Certain domain registrars call this code a domain secret, a domain password or an Auth key as well.
